Origin
Shinkai Tokitsune (神悔 刻経) is one of many deities who originated from Japanese folklore. Her existence was not based from religions or other beliefs spread around Japan; the earliest record of literature that mentioned her existence as The Goddess of Regret came from a novel called Rabbit Garden Tales, written by a writer who lived around the Edo-era (1603-1868) of Japan under the pen-name Kyouteki Bakin (曲亭 馬琴). Rabbit Garden Tales was a collection of strange stories gathered by Kyouteki Bakin during his lifetime, retelling about true stories involving ghosts and supernatural occurences. The last chapter of Rabbit Garden Tales, narrated the story about himself who claimed to have died 4 days earlier before the recorded official death of himself (December 1ˢᵗ, 1848). He decided to form a contract with Shinkai Tokitsune to live for another 4 days, to finish the book with the help of the Goddess herself since he was handicapped.
Personality
As The Goddess of Regret, she is naturally curious and learned a lot from humans' innate desire and behavior. Shinkai Tokitsune may act like any other human being, but that was simply because she had to integrate herself into the current society in order to watch over the human who have formed a contract with her.Shinkai Tokitsune, in some form, can be called a psychopath. She doesn't have any empathy for those people who have formed a reborn contract with her; nor the people who indirectly affected by the contract holders. Yet, this fact easily contradicted with one particular contract holder who lived to tell the story about her; he was none other than Kyouteki Bakin. He was handicapped (suffered from blindness) later in his life and couldn't finish Rabbit Garden Tales, if it's without the help of Shinkai Tokitsune.In the end, Shinkai Tokitsune was merely a goddess who watches; she didn't judge the contract holders, yet she was still the wiser in such scenario. It was useless to give another judgement to the contract holders anyway; since, according to the contract... anyone who wishes to be granted another 4 days to live, will be sent to hell; doesn't matter whether the contract holder was a good person or even a prophet in their previous life.

Appearance
Shinkai Tokitsune appears to be like a mature, old lady in her late 40s. The dress she wore barely veiled her skin, and she didn't even bother to hide her gargantuan chest away from sight. Kyouteki Bakin wrote a simple description of Shinkai Tokitsune's appearance; which starts with: "The fine lady you will not ever forget. The dark empath lingering her eyes, yet for those who seeks redemption... you can find a meaning from her smile, and you will smile too. She was such a sight in my dream, burned into my memory after I am reborn and reunited with my blindness".However, no matter how beautiful Shinkai Tokitsune appears to be... the only thing that the contract holder remembered about her, especially after they have went through their 4 days of vacation... was the sight of Shinkai Tokitsune's scythe, as dark as the night of Mitsuketsu River.

Humans. . . are interesting, aren't they?
In this world... those who died, will be sent to the afterlife realm to be later given a verdict based on who they are in their previous life. A good person, those whose merit outweigh their sin... will be sent to heaven, as their reward. Otherwise... hell is their next destination, an eternal realm of suffering. However... that's not always the case. Not when Mitsuketsu-no-kawa (三結の川) is the afterlife realm, where as the name suggests; the river have three ends. One that leads to heaven, one that leads to hell... and one secret path.This secret path... can only be seen, witnessed, and accessed by those with massive regret, revenge, or even vengeance encompassing their soul.It is a common myth in many religions and folklores, that when a human died... the flashback of their life will be presented before them. Regret would often be manifested after seeing the flashback of one's life... after all, depending of what kind of human those person is, the flashback of their life would be either a blessing or a curse. Such flashback also capable of invoking a massive feeling of regret... which enabled said person to see the secret path later in their afterlife.The secret path leads to a shrine, named Seisaishidou Taisha (生再始動大社). Seisaishidou Taisha is the shrine where Shinkai Tokitsune resides, and the shrine where those who were able to gain access to it... gained the privilege to form a reborn contract with Shinkai Tokitsune.The contract itself reads as follows: the contract holder who agreed with the terms and conditions, will be able to "reborn". They will be reborn 2 minutes after the cause of their death, and the original cause of their death itself is cancelled; those who participated and/or have direct or indirect connections with the cause of the death of the contract holder will have their memory erased, particularly about the cause of the death. The time limitation of the contract holder's "reborn" is 4 days, starting when the said person is "reborn". In order to fulfill the contract's terms and conditions, the contract holders will be sent to hell regardless of their sin and merit of their previous life after the 4 days of their "reborn" period have passed.With such ludicrous cost of contract... it is to be expected, that many refused and decided to be fairly judged instead. After all... for those with a forgettable kind of regret, what could've been done with just 4 days of extended lifetime? Furthermore, with eternal suffering awaits them?But, for those who agreed even after threatened with the hell itself... those 4 days worth of living was enough to do the deed they were unable to.After all, people who are willing to suffer eternally just to send another person to hell... or people who are willing to go to hell in order to save their most loved and treasured ones, does exists.To be continued.
